BIOGRAPHY

Amalia Mourad was born (1992) and raised in Berkeley, California. Her mother is from Egypt and her father is of Polish descent. She has spent much of her life traveling, including studying abroad in both Spain and Brazil. Amalia studied classical guitar for over 11 years, has written and studied poetry, performed spoken word, as well as performed in several professional plays. While developing herself through all of these forms of artistic expression she has also consistently practiced painting, which has been an integral part of her life. She primarily focuses on the figure, issues of gender, emotion, and the human experience. In 2013, Amalia graduated with a painting major from the College of Creative Studies (“a graduate school for undergraduates”) UCSB. She graduated with an MFA Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts, NY in May, 2016. After graduating Mourad helped found the artist collective Fruit Exchange Studios, in Brooklyn. In 2017, Mourad was invited to participate in a one-month residency at Espositivo in Madrid, Spain. Her work has been shown in New York, California, Miami, Montreal, and Berlin, and been represented at art fairs such as PULSE and Spring Break Art Show.
